It's What I Do
My passion is to help you have a more beautiful business. Did you know that?
Sure, I would love it if you hired me. It helps pay my bills and keeps me from having to work for someone else, doing something I'm not too crazy about. So yeah, I wouldn't mind working with you on a project or two. Design is what I do best, and it's less a job than a calling.
But on a higher level, I just want to help your business look better. And if that means passing on a bit of advice here or there, pointers and hints for making things on your own, then I'm being true to my passion. I'm that guy who sees a sign on a restaurant, or a commercial on TV, and I can't help but criticize the poor design choices. Conversely, I love beautiful design, noticing "hot" design trends, and learning new ways to present a client's product or service.
A Push
I met recently with a friend (Caleb Powers) who is a business coach. We had some coffee and chatted about how we run our businesses. I realized after reflecting on our conversation that, in some ways, I see myself as a coach as well. I'm here to push people - you! - the a more "beautiful" direction. I can't expect a client to come to me with the artistic vision for a project all buttoned up and set. If that's how I worked, I would be nothing more than a programmable "design robot".
No, I'm here to stretch you. Remember the old saying, "If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten." I once had a client who would make postcards out of the first slide in his PowerPoint presentation, and have them printed on card stock down the hall. I convinced him to try professional (yet less expensive, ironically) glossy postcards with a custom designed look and feel. His results changed.
So you might not have a "beautiful" business in your own mind. You might not think it's important to have a beautiful look at all. But the sad thing is, most potential customers judge every book by the cover. So whatever presentation you DO make, it's important to make sure it's done WELL.
Many Facets
Design isn't just about logos. That's one small piece of a many-faceted gem. The beautiful design needs to cover all the bases. All of the ways you present your business to the public.
Your business cards represent you. Your signage represents you. Your newspaper ad represents you. Your envelopes represent you. Your labels represent you. Your vehicles represent you. Every place you put your company name becomes an ambassador. How well that ambassador is doing its job, well, that's up to you and your willingness to bring beautiful design into all corners of your business.
And I'm here to help, obviously. If you want to just chat about what you could do to make changes, get in touch through my website's Contact page. I'm not going to charge you to brain storm and put ideas together. Like I said, my passion is helping you have a more beautiful business.
